About the event

The VIII Lisbon Legal Forum traditionally takes place in Portugal, at the University of Lisbon, with the purpose of debating major issues of contemporary Constitutional Law, based on the dialogue between the European and Brazilian legal systems.

In this 2020 edition, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the event will have a webinar format and will be held on November 17, 18 and 19. The Forum will also be integrated by the XXIII International Congress of Constitutional Law, which takes place annually during this period.

Issues related to governance in contemporary democracies present in the current pandemic scenario will be addressed. Different views, challenges, and models present in Brazil and Portugal will be discussed by political, legal and academic authorities.

Fórum de Lisboa

The cooperation and dialogue between the three organizing institutions of the Forum and the International Congress of Constitutional Law (Brazilian Institute of Education, Development and Research, Institute of Legal and Political Sciences of the Faculty of Law of the University of Lisbon and the Getulio Vargas Foundation) aim at developing activities in their areas of expertise, aimed at improving public and private institutions, not only in the two nations in question, but also in other countries. In this sense, they seek to:

1. The joint promotion of activities aimed at improving organizational and management models, especially with regard to the governance of public and private institutions, with a view to administrative and logistical simplification;

2. Encouraging the exchange of knowledge, the search for innovation, and the production of new methodologies for projects and public policies;

3. The organization and implementation of dissemination programs, as well as the discussion on topics of common interest, methodologies, and concepts developed within the three institutions;

4. Joint action in academic-scientific and research activities, in addition to diagnosing or alleviating the impacts of globalization and sociopolitical changes in the fields of public safety, social security, organized crime, justice reforms, criminal and criminal procedure, governance 4.0, artificial intelligence, among others.
